10 Common Post-US Military Careers

July 11, 2012 By admin

In the past, we have talked about the highest paying post-US Military careers. While everybody is interested in earning a lot of money, some of these jobs are not suited to the skills and experience of the applicant.

Once your days in the Military come to an end, you need to focus on finding a career that you will enjoy. With your many years of experience in a dedicated field, it is safe to say that you can find something that is up your alley.

Here are 10 of the most common post-US Military careers:

1. Police Officer. According to many sources, this is the career path that post-Military personnel are most likely to choose. You protected your country for so many years so you know what it takes to be successful.

2. HR Manager. Are you interested in hiring, payroll, benefits, and other related tasks? If so, you will enjoy your time as an HR manager (or other type of HR employee) in the private sector.

3. Registered Nurse. Simply put, if you worked as a nurse in the Military you are cut out to be a Registered Nurse in the private sector. This transition will be easy enough and you will continue to enjoy helping others.

4. Pilot. Were you a pilot in the Air Force? If so, you should think about continuing down this path in the future. Not only can you apply for jobs with commercial airlines but you can consider private aviation as well.

5. Construction Project Manager. From housing to bridges and much more, the Military is always building something. If you were involved with this during your time in the Military, you can continue down the same path in the future.

6. Intelligence Analyst. As somebody who has worked in the Military, you may have the background necessary to excel as an Intelligence Analyst.

7. Government Program Manager. There are always companies seeking government contracts. If you like the idea of helping these organizations, you should consider this position.

8. Management Consultant. Managing people can be a difficult task. However, with your Military experience you may not be phased by anything that comes your way. Take your skills to the private sector to show others how much you learned while serving your country.

9. IT Program Manager. Every facet of the US Military relies on technology in some way, shape, or form. If you love working with technology, such as computers, you will enjoy a career as an IT Program Manager. Not to mention the fact that this is one of the highest paying post- Military careers.

10. Aviation Program Manager. No matter the Military branch that you served in, you had the chance to get involved with the aviation industry. Did you? If so, you may be qualified to work as an Aviation Program Manager. This is a high paying job that puts you in position to manage everything from aircraft construction to maintenance.
