4 Navy Benefits to be aware of

August 3, 2012 By admin

When you enlist in the United States Navy, you can expect to get involved with a career that suits your skills, experience, and future goals. Along the way, you will be paid a competitive wage while also receiving many top of the line benefits.

There is no denying the fact that many civilian jobs pay more than those in the Navy ? at least at first. That being said, you have to look at the big picture. There are many financial benefits available, including a competitive paycheck among many others.

Here are four Navy benefits to be aware of. You will want to discuss these with your recruiter as soon as possible.

1. Vacation days. Just because you are in the Navy does not mean you never get time to yourself. Officers and Enlisted Sailors are eligible to take a ?leave? as a means of spending time with their family, going on a trip, etc. You are able to earn up to 30 paid days of vacation per year. If you don?t use all 30 during a given year, you are allowed to accumulate up to 60 days for future use.

2. Housing and food allowance. Did you know that every servicemember in the Navy receives a monthly allowance for food and housing? Best yet, this money is tax-free. On top of this, you may qualify for a VA home loan. This allows you to more easily purchase a property.

3. Health insurance. Let?s face it: millions of people in today?s day and age do not have the proper type of health insurance, if any at all. With the cost of medical care on the rise, this is more important than ever before. The Navy provides high quality coverage to all Sailors as well as their families. Best yet, the insurance is accepted at many of the top medical facilities in the world.

4. Life insurance. As part of the Navy, you never have to concern yourself with buying your own life insurance policy. While you are able to buy as much coverage as you want on your own, the Navy will always take care of you in this regard.

A $250,000 policy can be purchased through the Navy for $16/month. Want even more insurance? You can bump up the death benefit to $400,000 for only $26/month.

Upon enlisting in the Navy, you know you will be taken care of from day one. The benefits that you receive are among the best in the world. From paid leave to comprehensive health insurance and much more, you know you are in good hands.
