Advice for Choosing a National Guard Job

June 6, 2011 By admin

Are you interested in joining the National Guard? If so, it is your responsibility to choose a job as soon as possible. This is something that you can do on your own or with the help of your recruiter. Either way, it is essential that you choose a National Guard job that you are comfortable with.

It sounds easy enough to select a National Guard job, but this is not always the case for some people. One thing that makes this so difficult is the large number of options. With more than 150 jobs to choose from, you have a lot of work to do before you make a final decision.

These jobs are known as Military Occupational Specialties. To ensure the proper decision, dig into the finer details of each position while following the advice below.

1. Choose a job specialty that you find interesting. One of the main benefits of joining the military, regardless of the branch, is that you can focus on a career that you love. You don?t want to make the mistake of selecting just any job. Instead, put all your effort into choosing the position that is best for you and your personal interests.

2. Choose a position that will prepare you for the future. The training and experience that you receive in the National Guard will help you perform well as you defend and work for your country. But remember, you are going to move on at some point.

Your National Guard career should be one that will benefit you in the future. For example, if you want to work in the medical field later in life you should choose this type of National Guard career. This way you receive training that will help you excel down the line.

3. Compare your options. There are many ?job categories? to choose from. They include: infantry; armor and field artillery; aviation; medical; military police; transportation; logistics support; mechanic and maintenance; signal and military intelligence; engineer; administrative; translators/interpreter; and special forces.

If you like the fact that you have many options, you are really going to love the fact that this is the just the start. Within each job category there are numerous opportunities. For example, medical jobs include: dental specialist, biomedical equipment specialist, medical logistics specialist, radiology specialist, mental health specialist, and health care specialist among many others.

Get a Cash Bonus

Did you know that some National Guard jobs qualify for a cash bonus? This makes them very popular among many new enlistees.

If you have a special skill or join a unit that is involved with special assignments, you may receive a cash bonus of up to $5k. Along with this, those who have served in the military in the past may qualify for the same type of bonus.

Although you should never choose a National Guard job solely for the cash bonus, it is definitely something to think about. Who doesn?t want to receive a bit of extra money just for signing up?

When you follow this advice you should find it easier to choose the National Guard job that is best for you.
