May 20, 2008 By admin

As you enlist in the Military there are a number of opportunities that you can engage in to make sure that when you are ready to go to school that you have the full range of benefits that are available. Its wise to work to plan your education from the first days of your enlistment, so to not miss any of the different opportunities that are available to you to get the most out of your enlistment and benefits. Its important not to wait too long before setting up your education, as it can be a situation that you miss out on some of the opportunities by failing to plan, or waiting too long. Many people put off their education plan till they actually leave the military and that almost without exception is too long to wait.

There are not a lot of educational plans that are offered by private corporations or firms that match the opportunities that the United States Military Offer, so its is a wise thing to sit down and draw up your educational goals and get an idea of what you want to accomplish. Sometimes while serving on Active duty the Operations Tempo that you have will prevent you from making headway right away on your educational goals, but there are steps you can take now to make sure that you get the most from your education.

Credit for Service- Make sure that you are able to get all the credit for your military service that you are entitled to. You can apply to have your credentials evaluated by your college, sometimes terms of training or specific jobs in the military are eligible for college level credit.
MGIB- The Montgomery GI bill is the program established by congress to make sure that there are funds for servicemembers who want to get their education. But many enlisted people do not realize there are programs that allow you to maximize your training and educational funds, One is called Buy Up, and you put in an additional amount , up to $600 dollars and realize from that simple investment to your MGIB program up to an additional $5,400 dollars in educational funds later.
