Iraqi And International Journalists Meet And Discuss Affairs
Various members of the International press and members of the Iraqi press met together recently in Al Kut, for a journalism conference. It was held at the Al Kut hotel and was held to examine the state of the nation, and discuss the different situations that present themselves in their journalistic profession.
There are a lot of different issues that confront journalists in Iraqi, and the conference worked to compare notes and talk about different problems. The journalism conference is also sponsored by the Wasit Provincial Reconstruction Team. They work to provide different support and encouragement for journalists, especially journalists from Iraq, which has a fledgling press and media just getting back into the process.
Some of the issues that the different representative dealt with at the conference confronted cultural issues and topics that need to be discussed. The members of the media from different countries were amazed to discover that many of their problems are the same, despite cultural differences.
One of the issues in the past was that Iraqi journalists often did not have the same protection that members of the United States Journalism members typically enjoy. Iraqi media have faced jail time, kidnappings and even death threats.
Now, the Iraqi police and Iraqi National Army have been working toward assuring members of the Iraqi media that they are supportive and will keep them safe.
