Iraqi Security Forces have been experiencing huge successes in the area of munitions. By working closely with coalition forces, Operation Bashaer As Salaam has worked to expose and reveal illegal munitions. The joint forces have turned over rocket-propelled grenades, rockets, missile launchers, over 873 mines and in excess of 400 artillery rounds.
The operation started June 19th and it is continuing to target criminal elements and insurgent actions throughout the region of Amarah. The Iraqi Security Force has led the combined effort both executing and planning. They have detained more than 63 different suspected criminals since the beginning of the operation. Just prior to the start of the operation the Iraqi security forces announced an amnesty period of four days, where citizens could turn in munitions with no penalty.
The Iraqi Army and police are out in force and they are doing detailed and dangerous work to arrest criminals and insurgents that are suspects
“This operation has been a fantastic success,” said Colonel Charles A. Flynn. Colonel Flynn is the Commander of 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. “Both coalition and Iraqi forces have worked together to achieve great success.” Said Colonel Flynn.
