Annapolis U.S. Navy Academy Education

July 2, 2008 By admin

One of the most respected of the United States Service Academies is the United States Naval Academy. It is located at Annapolis, Maryland and it is a 4-year college military educational facility. The Naval Academy has been around since 1845 and it was created to give a well-rounded education to the young prospective Navy or Marine Corps Officer. A Navy Academy education is designed to provide a well rounded person, not only social but relational, educational, academic, and the entire person.

The Naval Academy has a proud history and tradition of preparing young men and women to become the leaders of tomorrow. It prepares the next group of Marine Corps and Navy officers to assume their military commission at the end of their 4-year education career. To gain entrance to the U.S. Naval Academy you have to be appointed. For many years this meant that a Senator or Representative from your home state had to sponsor you, and this was and still is a highly competitive method of entrance. Then they expanded the means to enter, and made it possible to attend a preparatory academy where you study and work both academically and physically to show your qualifications. If you graduate from one of these types of academies, then you may qualify for appointment by the Secretary of the Navy. This is a method to gain entrance to the Naval Academy that is not very well known, but it is just as effective and is another way to join the elite that attend the United States Naval Academy. You will participate in a wide variety of training, both physical and military type training. The academic training is some of the finest in the entire world, but it is just a jumping off point. You will be a participant in summertime training as well. It is a variety of different training, often with active duty Navy and Marine Corps units. You will participate in a wide array of activity, and learn skills including navigation, seamanship, weapons training, and a number of other subjects. The Navy also stresses participation in some sort of physical conditioning while at the Navy Academy.

Participation in some sort of sports activity is mandatory for all cadets, whether it is intramural, club, or intercollegiate sports. These presents a wide variety of physical sports choices, and gives the cadet the chance to experience some different sports activity before they graduate.
