Army Field Artillery Weather Careers

The United States Army maintains one of the most advanced Field Artillery Army forces in the world. Because of the advanced nature of our Field Artillery, the Army maintains its own Field Artillery Meteorologist Weather Specialists. They are the personnel that are responsible to judge weather conditions, and assist as a member of the team. You will determine how the weather will affect the firing of various field Artillery weapons. It is a job that deals with providing temperature and density readings, provide generators for field artillery operations, and help to launch and prepare weather balloons to take weather readings. Working in the US Army as a Field artillery crewmember and weather specialist is a job that is very intense, you are often on the go, providing information on the fly. You will work to deal with a variety of different various meteorological equipment, and testing and operating radio transmitters and equipment. You will participate in classroom and simulated real world combat training evolutions, as well as working with units in the field. Field Artillery crewmembers have to have good physical stamina, as they are called upon at times to perform their duty for long stretches of time without a break or rest. If you are detail oriented, enjoy working under pressure, and have a good ability with math, then you may do well as an Army Meteorological Field Artillery Specialist. You will work to perform a number of general Army Artillery crewmember responsibilities, to help with assembly and dismantling of mobile launch positions, and standing duty in the operation and maintenance locations of Army field Artillery and missile systems. You will work to stand duty as well as helping relay information on weather conditions. You will work to get weather forecasts from national and regional sources, as well as interpreting and using your own weather observations and instrument readings to give the most accurate readings possible to your commander or commanding officer. After basic training you will advance to seven weeks of individual advanced training as a Field Artillery Meteorologist. As a member of the Field Artillery team you will work to provide support and assistance in all general Army Field Artillery issues, including set up. Do You Have Prior Service?
