Army Medical Dentist Careers

April 21, 2008 By admin

One of the more traditional jobs in the Army is that of the Army Dentist. The Army has its own medical and Dental corps, and they are staffed by some of the best-trained medical and dental personnel in the world. Working in the Army as an Army Dentist allows you to serve anywhere that the Army serves, worldwide. You may serve on a large base in a well-known region or you could be tasked to serve at a smaller Army installation. You could even be a Dentist that ventures out into the field to assist Army personnel in the field with dental emergencies. The Army Dental Corp is responsible to help provide dental care to the families and Servicemembers themselves that serve in the United States Army.

The Army Dental Corps Officer helps in managing emergency casualties during combat, and assists in the necessary process of identification from dental records when soldiers are killed in the line of duty. The Dental Army corps officer is charged to make sure that Army Personnel are combat ready and Army forces in the area of Dental health maintain mission readiness. There are several areas that it is possible to specialize in inside the Army Dental Corps community, including serving as a Pediatric Dentist, an Endodontist, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, an orthodontist, or as a comprehensive dentist.

Serving in the Army as a dental officer may include duties such as coordinating employment of Dental care soldiers in your command from battalion, to platoon, or even larger groups, coordination of dental care for soldiers in a specific area or facility, and controlling and commanding of dental corps units during both peacetime and wartime, in non emergency and emergency situations. Training for a Dental Corps Army Officer starts with being a graduate of a American Dental Association dental school, this is not exactly an entry level position, but one that is open to practicing or newly graduated dentists wanting to serve their country in the Army Dental Corps. You have to have a current license to practice unrestricted in the United States.

After becoming a dentist you will attend the Army Department Medical Officer Basic Training, and learn about the Basic Officer Leadership Course. After your training and indoctrination you will be assigned a duty station that may be anywhere that the Army serves around the world.
