Army ROTC Scholarships ? Take Full Advantage

June 6, 2012 By admin

When you decide to join the Army ROTC you are in position to take advantage of many benefits. While you are sure to get an early jump on life in the US Military, there is another benefit to consider: you may qualify for an Army ROTC scholarship. In this case, you are in position to prepare yourself for a Military career while also having some or all of your education paid for. What more could you want?

There are three types of Army ROTC scholarships:

– two year scholarship

– three year scholarship

– four year scholarship

As the names suggest, each scholarship program is designed for students at a particular point in their college career.

It is a common myth that you are required to join the Army ROTC program straight out of high school if you want to receive a scholarship. Even if you only have two years of college remaining, you may qualify for this type of financial assistance.

Merit and Grades, Not Need

It is good to know that Army ROTC scholarships are awarded based on your grades and overall merit. This has nothing to do with the financial situation of your family. With an even playing field, you have every incentive to do well in the classroom no matter if you are still in high school or have already started college.

Scholarship amounts will vary. Additionally, you will receive an allowance for text books and other fees.

Living Expenses

As if a scholarship to pay for tuition was not enough, the Army ROTC program at your school has even more to offer. You will receive a monthly living allowance for each school year. With this money, you are free to do as you please.

The amount that you receive is based on your level in the program:

– First year, $250/month

– Second year, $300/month

– Third year, $350/month

– Fourth year, $400/month

Do I Qualify?

By now, you probably realize the financial benefits associated with the Army ROTC program. Of course, you have to apply for a scholarship in order to receive assistance.

Qualifications are based on the type of scholarship you are applying for (two, three, or four year).

For example, if you are a freshman in college and interested in applying you will need to meet the following requirements:

– United States citizen

– Between the wage of 17 and 26

– High school GPA of 2.5 or above

– High school diploma or GED

– Minimum SAT score of 920 or ACT score of 19

– Meet all required physical standards

– Agree to service on Active Duty in the Army or as a Reserve in the Army National Guard or U.S. Army Reserve

If you know you want to serve in the Military after graduating from college, it makes good sense to apply for an Army ROTC scholarship. With this financial benefit, your college career will be much more enjoyable.
