Balance Career and Military – Join the Reserves

Many people want to serve their country, but do not want to give up their jobs. Luckily, there are Reserve Units available in all five branches of the United States Armed Forces.

The role of the Reserve Units is to fill active duty needs in times when the amount of soldiers available falls below what is required. Such times might include when national security is at risk, National emergency or when war breaks out. Reservists may be called upon to serve in active duty or to assist in the training of the soldiers who will serve in active duty. Reservists also assist in the deployment and mobilization of units.

Components of United States Military Reserves include:
1. Air Force Reserve
2. Navy Reserve
3. Army Reseve
4. Marine Corps Reserve
5. Coast Guard Reserve
6. Air National Guard
7. Army National Guard

There are many career fields in the United States Army Reserves or Army National Guards.

While the Marine Corps, Air Force, Navy and Army Reservists report to the federal government, the National Guard units report to the state governments. The National Guard can also be called upon by the President of the United States in times of emergency or risks of National Security.

You may have heard the slogan ?one weekend a month, two weeks a year?. This is because as a Reservist you will be required to fulfill at least 39 days of military service a year. The standard for accomplishing this includes drill weekends which are held monthly and annual training which last for 15 days.
