When you choose to enlist in the Army you will receive a great deal of training and opportunities to develop skills as you move into your specific Army career. But there are a host of benefits, which accompany a person joining the Army, some of which are well known, and others that are not as well known. Joining the Army allows a person to receive a generous pay and salary package, including benefits for education, housing, food, vacation, basic pay and allowances, retirement pay, and health care. Many of these benefits are increased as time goes on so the ability for the pay and benefits of an Army enlisted person to keep pace with the economy is high.
It was recently estimated that if a person joins the Army today that they will begin to receive a benefit package worth conservatively about $99,000 dollars. Nearly sixty five percent of that compensation is in the form of non-cash, the rest is in pay and allotment benefits. This estimate was put forth by the Congressional Budget Office, and is one that is adjusted from year to year. The Army gives you money for vacation time, thirty days paid time off every year, support for family services, special duty pay, and cash allowances to help cover various cost of living issues.
Jobs that demand additional skills or that is especially demanding often pay more. There are literally dozens of different types of special duty and hazard pay that are available for people who enlist in the Army. Special pay amounts range from $55 dollars a month to about $375 dollars additional a month. Types of special duty pay include Flight pay, Aircrew pay, Hardship duty pay, foreign language pay, and combat duty pay. In addition to pay there are allowances that an Army Soldier can qualify for. Allowances such as housing, food, clothing, and cost of living allowances are all allowances that every soldier gets in varying amounts depending on their circumstances. Other more sporadic allowances include family separation allowances, and moving and relocation allowances, these are given as the individual situation qualifies for them.
In addition there are additional ways to earn extra money. There are one-time special bonuses, called enlistment bonuses that you may qualify for. There are also special skills bonuses, bonuses for those who qualify for Officer Candidate School, and various educational and re enlistment bonuses that can occasionally be received by the Army Enlisted person.
