CLEP Educational College Testing

August 13, 2008 By admin

One of the most exciting things that you can do while serving in the military is to check out the CLEP educational testing program. Why is it exciting? Well because there are different things that you can do that are completely paid for by the military when you are on active duty, and CLEP testing is one of those things. The CLEP testing program offers tests that challenge your knowledge, and if you pass them, then you are awarded college level credit. And the best part, ALL costs for CLEP testing are free for Military Servicemembers. There is also a series of college credit that is available for military Servicemembers through the CLEP program.

When the testing location is military there is typically no up front cost, when taking the test at a local school, then you may have to pay a fee but that will be refunded to the test taker. There is not the opportunity for people in the civilian world to take CLEP tests for free, so it is a good benefit for Servicemembers that are serving on Active Duty. CLEP stands for College Level Exam program, and it is a means to earn college credit by examination. The CLEP testing program for the military is ran by DANTES, or the Defense Activity for non-traditional types of educational support. It is one that has a lot of variety, there are a large number of titles that are available, and it cannot hurt to try. If you try to take a test and you happen to pass, then you are able to gain the credit. If not, you have not lost anything. Most of the time people have to pay a fee to take a CLEP test, but as a member of the United States Military you are eligible to receive the test for free. Who is eligible for the military supported CLEP testing? Navy, Air Force, United States Coast Guard, or the Marine Corps, are eligible to take the military supported CLEP tests. There are a great many CLEP tests that are possible to take, and they are taken in traditional pen and paper format.

My step-grandson is trying to enter the US Army now but has been advised that he is eligible only for the USAR. I used to administer the CLEP tests but I would like to know what tests are available and what the cost of them are.
