Clothing Repair US Army Enlisted Duty

As a textile, laundry and clothing decontamination and repair specialist in the Army you will learn how to deal with a variety of situations dealing with textiles, laundry and other materials. You will be responsible for performing clothing, laundry, shower, and personnel decontamination functions. You will work to do laundry and decontaminate various facilities, materials and personnel as required by the Army. Nine weeks of Army basic combat training will prepare you for learning how to be a soldier and how the Army functions.

Many people think that acting or working as a Laundry and Textile clothing repair and decontamination specialist is a simplified job, but this is the specialty that will help clean and restore troops should a chemical or biological attack occur. Working as an Enlisted Clothing Repair Specialist in the Army you will work not only with clothing and laundry repair, but also with different textiles and laundry materials. You will receive training in how to supervise and train other soldiers more junior than yourself. Some of the duties you will perform as an Army Enlisted Textile, Laundry and Clothing repair specialist includes: operating mobile washers, dryers, decontamination and delousing equipment, sorting between items that can be cleaned, washed and decontaminated and items that are beyond repair or cleaning, reviewing the accuracy of laundry lists and bundle counts, receiving individual and bulk laundry and sorting and issuing equipment and laundry items, conducting various Army authorized clothing exchanges with bag operations. They have special training that helps them know how specifically to decontaminate and assist soldiers that have been contaminated with foreign materials, chemicals or other agents. Part of your training will be in the classroom and part of your training will be in the field, learning on the job. Part of your duties and responsibilities will include: organizing and coordination of personnel through shower facilities during decontamination and delousing from various causes, learning how to assist with in the field troop decontamination, supervising various types of laundry preventative maintenance in shower, delousing, laundry and decontamination equipment, and learning to set up mobile laundry and shower facilities in the field.

After that you will attend individual advanced training for six weeks where you will learn how to perform the duties and skills necessary to be an enlisted clothing repair and laundry textile specialist.
