Eight of the Safest Military Jobs

June 15, 2018 By admin

Military jobs are considered some of the most dangerous jobs around, but it is still possible to find a career in a relatively safe role. The safest military jobs are the non-combat roles and traditionally cover administrative and support, legal and medical. No job in the military is totally safe as you can always be deployed to a combat role if this is your career choice.

1. Administration and Support Jobs

Many of the administration roles are non-combat and are carried out at base. They are generally safe roles to be in and provide good career choices once your military term is over. They are essential for the moral of the troops and to ensure that the military machine runs smoothly.

2. Financial Management Technician

This position is the military equivalent to a bookkeeper or accountant. You will be required to prepare and maintain budgets and accounting systems. To pay invoices and process check?s, to deal with travel expenses and prepare financial reports. You will calculate military pay and analyze financial data. You role is to keep the financial wheels of the military moving.

3. Human Resources Specialist

As a Human Resources Specialist you will be maintaining support to keep Soldiers combat ready. The role covers both the health and general welfare of the military staff. You will be involved in strength assessment as well as personnel records and accountability, postal services and keeping emergency contact data.

4. Shower/Laundry and Clothing Repair Specialists

Your main responsibilities are the decontamination of showers and personnel clothing. Your job duties will include bulk laundry, mobile shower units and alteration and repair of uniforms.

Other administration and support roles to consider are Chaplain, Quartermaster and Supply Specialists.

5. Legal Jobs

Jobs in the Legal Services also tend to be non-combatant and you will usually be on base or even State side. These are important roles essential to the smooth running of the military.

6. Paralegal Specialist

Your role is to provide legal advice and support in all areas of the law that affect your base and commanders. You will be required to prepare legal documents for areas including criminal law, contract law and international law. You will also assist in will preparation, separation documents and other areas of family law.

Other Legal roles to consider are Criminal Investigations Specialist, Internment Specialists and Army Judge Advocate General?s Corps Attorney.

7. Medical Jobs

Medical jobs that are non-combatant are usually safe.

8. Dental Specialist

Your primary role is to assist the Dentist and to maintain the dental office and equipment. Job duties are wide ranging and cover preparation of instruments, assessing the patient?s vitals and the administration of anesthesia. You will learn skills from dental hygiene and preventative dentistry to office procedures and x-ray techniques. This is a very valuable role with good civilian career prospects.

Other Medical roles to consider include Animal Care Specialist, Biomedical Equipment Specialist, Optical Laboratory Specialist and Pharmacy Specialist. There are many more medical roles which are non combatant and provide safe military careers with skills easily transferred to civilian life.

No military job is completely safe as you will often be operating in combat zones and you could be deployed in another role if needed, but these are some of the safest military roles available.

My 17 year old daughter has a desire to work in some aspect of bookkeeping or secretarial. Will she still need to prepare for a physical and bootcamp for a position like that?

Are you serious? Everyone goes through Bootcamp! She will learn to shoot a rifle and destroy the enemy! And save the lives of other soldiers! An Administration job doesn’t mean you get out of training!

    Hello,
I was in the Navy (5 yrs), my brother and father in Army, and have other family in the Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Air Force. For those with questions: 1) _all_ persons who enlist have to go through basic training. That is why it is called basic training. 2) Everyone who joins signs a contract. 3) You may get promised all sorts of things from recruiters, you may NOT always have those promises granted. Once a new recruit goes to boot camp, they will laugh at you if you say “well, my recruiter told me….” or “I was promised and they have to …”.
One part of your contract you sign is that the Navy, Army etc… can change their mind upon THEIR needs.
People do sign their contracts promising them to be a navy seal or a secretary and then they end up cleaning bathrooms for 4 yrs.
NO ENLISTED will automatically be accepted into a special force (seal, rangers etc…). They must 1) qualify 2) there must be a slot open.
In other words, after boot camp, they have to want to put you in the position for you to get it.

I am in 7th grade. I have had my heart set on going into the military. I am in a military family, I want to be in a job that does not make you go into combat. I am a female, I want to have a family, and I like work, a sense of accomplishment. What would you recommend?

I have always wanted to join the military but I have also always wondered if you do make the cut how low can you go with the years in the contract that you have to sign
