Enlisted Military Job Incentives

August 19, 2008 By admin

Joining the Enlisted ranks of the United States military is a great choice for most people. It is rewarding, and you can gain valuable job skills while earning a living and providing for your family. But there are often jobs that do not have enough candidates and for those jobs there are often different incentives that are made available. When you consider enlisting in the military, you can choose from a number of different jobs. To attract candidates for certain jobs in the United States, the Military creates different incentives to attract quality people. The thing about an incentive is that it is not available for everyone; often you have to qualify for the specific incentive. An incentive is different than what is considered a regular military benefit; it?s a one-time offer that an enlisted person collects to help attract people to a specific job specialty.

Financial rewards and cash rewards are available for those that choose a high demand job. Many times there are specific jobs that can not be fully staffed, because there is a high demand, or because there are specific qualifying factors that restrict what candidates are able to apply. Some of the jobs in the military are in such high demand and understaffed to the point that the military offers incentives to lure qualified candidates. The 5 different Armed Services each offer different incentives for jobs that they have a hard time filling. Enlistment bonuses and incentives are designed at the whim of each of the different services. Some of the jobs and MOS (military occupational specialties) have certain types of military enlistment bonuses. To be qualified for a particular incentive, it has to be something you can do, training you already have, or something you qualify for naturally, such as being a native speaker in a foreign language other than English.

This is a process that to be successful for the Servicemember needs to be spelled out in writing, and in detail. During the last year or two, Congress has increased the amount of enlistment incentive bonuses that are allowed by law. Each of the incentives that the military offers for different jobs are subject to change, the incentives are based on the needs of the particular service, the circumstances, and the qualifications needed to apply.

They are designed to aid the services, but they can sometimes also aid the individual prospective Servicemembers. There are other military benefits besides incentives such as tuition assistance, military medical benefits, base pay and allotments, and even the Montgomery GI bill.
