Enlisted Navy OR Medical Room Careers

Soldiers that enter a US Military hospital, medic station or other medical facility often are not in a position to wait, they need emergency care immediately, often to save their lives. The personnel that serve in the US Navy as operating room specialists are highly trained, and they are the first line of defense in giving emergency medical assistance to soldiers who are injured. They function as the doctor?s eyes and ears, and provide services in basic emergency care and medical support. The Operating room specialist assists the nursing staff in making the room ready for surgery, and in helping to prepare the patients for surgery.

If you have an ability to help and care for other people, and are an effective communicator then this may be an effective job for you. The Operating room specialist is a key player on the hospital and emergency services healthcare team. If you work as a Navy Operating room specialist, some of your duties may include; Examining battlefield and emergency trauma patients and providing basic support medical care, taking blood pressure pulse and vital signs of patience upon direction providing assistance to medical nurses and doctors during surgery and setting up sterile fields for procedures and surgical procedures. Arriving injured at a medical treatment facility for surgery, it is the Operating Room specialist who is the person who prepares the patient for surgery, and helps out in all the many details that are required. The needs of wounded soldiers can?t wait, and when soldiers are injured the person that often sees the patient long before the doctor is the Navy Enlisted Operating Room specialist. If you can work under pressure and remain calm, and you have training or an interest in biology, psychology, Math, chemistry, general science and personal medical care, then this may be the specialty for you. After you gain experience you can work toward a career as a medical assistant, a physicians assistant, or a medication aide.

After boot camp you will spend about 19 weeks learning how to be an Operating rooms specialist. Some of the other administrative duties that you may perform as an enlisted Navy OR specialist include; helping out in personal operative and postoperative procedures and interviewing patients for medical histories.
