While it seems like a routine job, there are skills and training that a person gains as a US Navy enlisted mess specialist that you likely will not gain in other jobs or in either civilian or military work. The training that a person that is studying to be a Food Service Specialist receives is in hands on training and classroom instruction, to teach concepts and then give the student an opportunity to perform them.
