i am shipping to fort jackson on wednesday and just found out that i may need my wifes ORIGINAL social security card and birth certificate, as well as my daughters...i acn get my wifes, this is no problem, although a little strange since she may need them and the mail isn't very safe to return them...but i do not have contact with my daughter and cannot get her docs, i do have a child support order and medical support order, and i must enroll her, so would copies be ok or do i HAVE to have the originals?

you do not need the originals, my husband went to jackson aug of last year and didnt take my original ss card. or my sons. he took our original marriage license, but everything else was copies. except our sons birth certificate it was a certified copy. and of course originals of your stuff.

also this will sound a little crazy but its not told often enough to people about to ship out. bring your cell phone to jackson they are nicknamed "relaxin jackson" and when my husband went he kept his cell for 2 weeks and got it back his last week also and some units let you keep them the whole time and you have designated time to use them. you can also put almost everything on hold. credit card payments, insurance, and just about any payments you have, just call and ask. the worst they can do is tell you no.

ya we were lucky because i had went to the navy 3 years before and i already knew a lot so it wasnt crazy when he left. (we werent married when i left) and my grandfather is a retired army col. so that helped a lot too.

also before you leave, so today! get powers of attorney for everything, finance, health, general. get durable powers of attorney usually you can find these online for free, if you cant i could email you some. have them notarized by a notary at your bank and then file them in you county courthouse. otherwise your wifes hands are tied, she cant do anything with anything if its in your name.
