Default Iowa Caucuses

I learned this morning how these caucuses actually work - which boils down to a room full of Average Men/Women and when they say the word, the people actually walk to the corner of the room in which the candidate of their choice is standing. If the candidate does not garner at least 15% of the total number of persons there (this is for the democratic party only - apparently the caucus "rules" of engagement change according to who is currently in power and other factors) that candidate is out of that round. Then they do it again and so on....

Not only does it sound like musical chairs, it sounds a little on the backwards side to me - antiquated even.
Thoughts?
