That is a tough situation - but you will have to make the final decision for yourself. I'm a parent of two just about to graduate high school and they are making the same touch choices. I can totally understand your folks' reactions - us parents watch the news and hear the death count of the US troops everyday, and try not to feel sick. Sick with worry about whether or not it will happen to the service members in our own families, or even our own children... No matter how grown up you guys get you are still our kids...

Members of the US armed forces, any branch, are always at risk of being sent overseas. Most of the time there is no guarantee that you will be able to stay home, but at the same time, no guarantee that you will be sent to Iraq either... We cannot stress enough that you HAVE to do your research and talk to recruiters, and perhaps even your brother or someone else currently IN the service - you will have to make the final decision yourself but obviously that cannot be done until you do your homework so that you ARE ABLE to make the best choice for you.

I'm afraid that is the best we have to offer here... we are wishing you the best of luck though!

Default iraq

Not sure if you will read this but maybe someone else would. Its like this. No parent will ever want thier daughter to join any branch. Try to explain to them exactly what you are going to be doing if you do get deployed in iraq. When I went the airforce people didnt even leave the fence line. Is there still danger on a camp..Ofcourse but you have to talk with your parents and let them understand exactly what you intend to do and why. When it comes down to it only you can make that choice. My mom kicked and screamed but know I cant even go to the store with her and have her NOT show me off to her friends and strangers. Keep it in mind that it is your choice....but try and respect thier feelings when/if you let them know you are going to do it.
