I completed U.S. Army Basic Combat Training in July 2006, and am currently working on an article for potential publication in Soldier magazine, with the working title of "Surviving Boot Camp as an Older Soldier". I would like to hear from other soldiers who completed basic training in the last two years. Responses will be tabulated and published, but names will not be used without permission. I would greatly appreciate a brief response to the following questions:
When did you attend Basic Combat Training, and at what Fort? Are you an older soldier? (age 31+) How were older soldiers treated in your unit? What was the greatest challenge you faced in Basic, and how did you overcome it? What is the most important thing you wish you had known before attending Basic? What is the most important item you wish you had brought to basic training, or which you needed to have mailed to you later? Is there any additional advice you would like to p*** on to new recruits about to enter Basic Combat Training? I will check periodically for replies here, but would prefer if you sent your response in an e-mail to: brianh@cal.net Please include "Boot Camp" in the subject line. Thanks! SPC Brian J.
