Question housing allowance

Can anyone tell me if the Army pays a housing allowance to a deployed soldier's family if they choose to move back to the area in which their extended family lives if the soldier had not lived there prior to enlising?
My daughter-in-law and her 2 very young children want to live closer to us once he's deployed as opposed to staying on base by herself. Thanks.

that is a good question, but one I'm afraid none of us here has the exact answer to. We are not sure, but a military support site such as www.militaryonesource.com or the department of defense web site at www.defenselink.mil might have the info you are looking for, OR the info about who to contact to find out.

Good luck to you!

I think that is a question that only someone who had the experience of getting that allowance could answer. I haven't heard of it happening but its not impossible for it to be in the fine print.

Default yes

I know its late and you by now know the answer but if anyone else reads this the answer is yes. If a soldier gets deployed and his family is in govt housing they can move off post where ever they want. The Housing Allowance however will be set off the zip code where the soldier is stationed and not where his dependents move to.
