Default Coast Guardsman's Service is Above & Beyond

Petty Officer First Cl*** Jim Peterson of Deer Lodge, Mont., has been named this year's Schow-Donnelly Award recipient by the Voices Take Flight organization at a ceremony Saturday, in Phoenix.

Peterson, a Coast Guard aviation survival technician stationed at the Coast Guard Recruiting Command in Arlington, Va., was recognized for "putting service before self" by saving over 40 people from deadly waters during his 17 years as a rescue swimmer.

"The job itself made me come back day after day," Peterson reflects. "It's a fun job, a thrilling job, but most importantly a rewarding job that helps people in need."

More information about the Schow-Donnelly Award is located at VOICES TAKE FLIGHT
