Our son is in the national call to service (NCS) program. His 15 month active duty enlistment will be up in January. His recruiter told him that he had the option to reenlist in active duty if he wanted, rather than go into reserves. Our son absolutely loves the Navy and wants to make it a career. However, now, he is being told that all sailors on NCS must go into reserves and cannot reenlist for active duty.
We are all heart broken about this. Does anyone out there have any information or comments or suggestions on this ?? does our son have any options at all to allow him to stay on active duty ?? we'd love to hear some positive news on this !! please....... I do not understand the Navys' position on this. Our son has a lot of college, did well in training, has been promoted to E-3, is in excellent physical condition, single. I would think the Navy would do all it could to keep young men like this on active duty and encourage them to make the Navy a career. Our son is a Yeoman. leaxbo |

Hi...
My better half is going through something similar...he's been out for about a year now but is itching to go back. The recruiters are helping him to get straightened out between Active and Inactive reserve and the needs to return to active duty. If your son is still in, I'd suggest (also) following the chain up as high as it takes to find the possibilities. It seems that the more people you talk to in the Navy, the more likely it is that you can eventually find a suitable situation. ![]() I hope it works out! Thanks to your family and son for the service and sacrifice. ~m |

Hello,
Its June and I just read your concerns. I am NCS too. I did my active term and I just past my 2 year mark in the Reserves. Im not sure what your son's rate is but these are/were my options. Ok the only way I could stay active duty, I had to be stationed with the Marines that were deployable. If your not you're out. Your son probably got a nice bonus and the reason this program was made was to get more people in the Reserves, because it is undermanned. Once your son hits Reserves unlike people who reenlist for the Reserves are not waived for 2 years from deployment. So at any time he can deploy which the Reserves love to deploy people. Now there are many options once you hit reserves. If he really likes active duty he first has to do 2 years of Reserves first then he can reenlist. But I know a way around this. Tell your son go to all the OSO's possible and chiefs in his work area and tell them he wants ADSW (Active Duty) the longest he can do it is 179 but take a day off and do another 179 days. So go to OSO's and chiefs and tell them you need ADSW and they should hook you up as long as there location can afford it. Being that he is a low pay grade and hopefully has good experience this should get him in. Good Luck If you have any questions Ill try to help you, email me at surfthesurf@yahoo.com HM3 Rexrode |
