Default Helping Vets and their Families Find Jobs

I understand there is quite a bit of need when it comes to service members finding jobs for their off duty hours, or finding jobs after they are out of the service. I just stumbled across a really excellent site (we have confirmed their legitimacy) Looking for a job is looking for a job, but there are hundreds of employers who would PREFER someone with military experience, or someone with certain skills that can only be found in certain military positions, and so on. This is an excellent venue for both seekers and employers. Y'all take a look and send this on - it could help someone make what is sometimes a tough transition a little easier!

Take a look

Default Requesting to return to the VAMC

Looking forward to seeing you in the forums!

Hi I am new to this site. This peaked my interest. I worked at various VAMC Ft. Wayne,Indiana, Denver,Colorado. Portland.Oregon and Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center for 15 yrs. My husband . is a Ritired Air Force Viet Nam Veteran. (He is recovering from a triple by p*** surgery ) I left the VAMC in Portland to work for a Private Dermatolgist and then we moved to another city for his employment. After several years being away. I am Planning to Return to Portland,Or. My goal is to return to the VAMC. My goal is to work in the position I left. which was the Dermatology Clinic. When I started my process of obtaining employment again at the Portland VAMC it was in July of 2008. I have applied for every position that I qualified for. I think it's up to 18 For which I have received letters that I have qualified but was not chosen. Each one said the same, some said chosen internally. Then in Jan.2009 my goal came true a position in the Dermatology Clinic opened. I applied was interview March17th and now it is April 17th. I have not heard anything back. I have called HR to find out if anything was happening with this postion. I sent my applications in for two more positions. On one of then I did say my husband was a Retired Air Force Viet Nam Veteran.. I even ask a person in HR that I read on the internet an article if you are a spouse of a Veteran it would be easier to obtain a position. She said it was if you were married to an active and overseas. I can't find that article again but I thought it said reitired military spouses too. I I will continue to apply for positions. From Nursing ***istant to Health Techninician's .and PSA's. I have in the past received awards for being a great employee. I have references from a retired VA nurse and the past Doctors I worked for and with. I even contacted the Chief of Dermatology that I worked under at the Portland VAMC. He said he'd give me a reference. He now no longer emplpyed at the VAMC. So when I saw this Helping Vets and their Families find jobs. I thought I would share my frustrations .My sister retired in September after 30 yrs service as a Nurse at the Seattle VAMC. She told me they need help and doesn't understand why I have not been hired. And neither do I. So thank you for letting me share. I'll respond and let you know when I am employed. I will not give up. I will let you know when I am employed. I would love to say it's Monday.
