Default Warning Signs And Where Those At Risk Can Get Help

(CBS) Back in November, CBS News broke the story of the staggering number of veterans who commit suicide. The report was the result of a five-month investigation into veteran suicides.

The results were startling: according to data from 45 states, 6,256 men and women who had served in the armed forces took their own lives in 2005 - that's 120 suicides every week. Chief Investigative Correspondent Armen Keteyian and his investigative team found that veterans were more than twice as likely to commit suicide that year than non-veterans.

During the course of the investigation, the investigative team compiled a list of resources for how to find help and recognize the warning signs of mental health issues that could also be warning signs for suicide.

This is an important issue effecting our servicemen and women. Read the information here for complete listings of warning signs, symptom unique to veterans, where to find help and a variety of other information on this topic.

Wow 120 suicides per week? That is totally insane! I would of never imagined the suicide rate to be that high for a single year (2005) That is just unbelievable to me :-(

I know - it seems like a lot and it guess it is. We need to make sure we don't just ***ume that these guys and girls will be able to just blend back into their old lives seamlessly - We are so worried about making sure they come home safe and when they do, it might seem like our worries are over. We need to make sure we keep an eye on them once they get home because it may be just the beginning of another hard road...
