looking for some info please

Hi there my name is Kay I am from NC. My son is trying to find info on his grandfather that was in the Navy. If someone could tell me where to look and what to search for I would so appreicate it. His grandfather was in the Navy and was discharged 11-19-1947. He was on the USS Albermerle, but I cant find anything out. That is the info my sons father gave him and thats all I have to go on.
