There are histories for all of the many branches of the military. One of the histories which has not been talked about much over the years is the history of women in any military branch. As more women are starting to find their way into the military, it is important to recognize all the different roles women have served over the years and to celebrate the fact that their role continues to expand. In the United States Coast Guard.
A Start for Women
The first women in the United States Coast Guard started much the same as women in other branches of the US Military Forces. They were given menial tasks and made to feel special. During war efforts women were given more responsibility for preparation of military supplies and the arsenals which would be used by those actually in conflicts.
The Current Advancements
These days, you can see women working right alongside men in many of the positions which have not historically been given to women. Everything from pilots to gunner positions have been filled by these brave women of the US Coast Guard. There are positions which women are still encouraged to fill in opposition to women, but these jobs are also starting to be more integrated with men seeking to fill the assignments as well. Soon, there will be no distinction between what a man can do to defend the nation and what a woman can. To learn more about getting started in the US Coast Guard, click on the link above.
