Coalition Soldiers Aided By Sons Of Iraq In Preventing Abduction
The security situation has been improving in the Diyala region but there was a tragedy that was averted on Thursday. Four Children and two women had been marked for kidnapping by insurgents.
A report of the impending kidnapping reached Multi National Coalition Forces who rushed to the scene; to discover that the kidnapping had been largely prevented by the citizens group The Sons of Iraq.
The Sons of Iraq that live in the Abu Harab village had successfully defended the intended victims, doing battle against nearly four vehicles full of Al Qaeda supporters. As coalition troops arrived on the scene, the last of the battle was just ending. Several of the accused insurgents had been killed, and the rest of their group effort had rushed to flee.
The Sons of Iraq has not been very well organized previously, but of late has emerged as a major player on the security scene in Iraq. By working with both the Iraqi Security forces and dealing in a positive manner with Coalition troops the Sons of Iraq has been very successful in helping prevent attacks and abductions.
Because the membership of the Sons of Iraq are made up of everyday citizens, often they can catch wind of an impending attack, or possible attempted abduction, and respond. They can also send word swifty to coalition forces for assistance.
Because of their hard work and efforts to help in the war on terror, the Sons of Iraq have gained credibility with various security forces, both Iraqi and Coalition based.
