August 29, 2008 By admin

The United States employs a variety of specialty Military specialists that perform valuable services to support the needs of the United States Armed Forces. Some of these involve science and one in particular is a job requiring an underlying knowledge of science and biology. The Air Force Pest Management specialist is the person that works to examine facilities and different military locations for insects, rodents, spiders, ticks, mites, mice, birds, weeds, bats, and even predatory animals. You will also work with other members of pest control teams to deal with larger groups of pests or infestation problems.

You will be responsible for mixing and applying various chemical agents, and varying formulations of pesticides, poisons and other types of chemicals. You will have access to devices to at times scare off pests such as birds, from buildings, roads, compounds, Airfields, and other military type facilities. You will study in simulated real life conditions as well as in the classroom. You will learn basic chemical pest control techniques, as well as pesticide and chemical pest control methods. You will learn how to observe proper safety measures, and how to successfully deal with sudden pest infestations. You will be able to use a variety of devices, both intrusive and at times benign, to control the pest population, and to make sure that the problem or pest issue is resolved. Your first duty station will likely be on a larger base where you can continue your mentoring and training under senior members of the Air Force Pest Control specialty. You will work with the local commands and facility management to locate and identify any threats that these types of pests pose, and then agree on the best ways to eradicate or eliminate these pests from the area. If you enjoy working in a challenging field dealing with science then working as an enlisted Pest Management specialist in the Air force may be the job for you. As you rise in rank and authority you will help train more junior enlisted personnel in how to deal with pest control issues. Part of the time you may have to apply these materials by hand, and at other times you may use different power equipment in your pest control operations. After boot camp you will travel to Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas for technical school.
