Military Marine Corps Tuition Assistance

November 21, 2008 By admin

To apply for Marine Corps Tuition Assistance, all first time applicants (Servicemember applicants and dependents who apply under the program) must attend and complete a TA class orientation before applying for or using a Tuition assistance program. There are several Marine Tuition assistance programs that support and give financial assistance to Marines and their dependents. One hundred percent of tuition cost is possible for college courses taken during the off duty hours.

SOCMAR. The Marine Corps also offers the Marine Corps Servicemember Opportunity program. Similar to the opportunity educational programs with its sister?s services, it pays for and funds efforts to obtain a bachelor or associate degree at programs accessible to Marine and Navy installations around the world. Distance learning programs also sometimes qualify. If a distance-learning program qualifies under the SOCMAR program, there is not any residency requirement; courses that qualify can be taken from any location around the world. Marine Corps educational assistance takes several forms. There are a number of programs available, and they are all aimed at giving financial aid to Servicemembers, dependents and their spouses. Marine Corps Tuition Assistance. The Marine Corps TA program will fund in some cases up to one hundred percent of lab fees, instructional fees, tuition, computer fees, or other educational related expenses. It will help financially from the level of vocational education programs up to and including graduate degree studies. The funds from Marine Corps TA funding cannot be used for a lower or lateral degree (example: a second associate or second bachelor degree). If you access the Marine Corps TA programs as a Marine Officer, you must agree to two years of active duty following completion of any TA funded type courses. Marine Corps Tuition assistance is available for Servicemembers who pursue voluntary and off duty hour?s education.

If a Marine or dependent is not able to attend such a class in person because of distance or remote duty station, it is sometimes possible to attend and complete the course over the Internet in a distance-learning format. Once a Marine Corps TA applicant is accepted for tuition assistance, they must complete and submit a degree plan before completing twelve semester hours toward their degree.
