Military Non Traditional Education

There are many different programs that help provide educational help for enlisted military Servicemembers. As a person joining the military you can participate in a number of educational opportunities, including the Defense Activity for Non Traditional Education Support. This is referred to as the DANTES educational program and it is available for those who want to earn a degree and serve their country at the same time. The whole issue of the term “Non traditional” involves the ability to design your own educational program, and to attend classes over the Internet, via distance learning, through correspondence courses, or a combination of one or more of these delivery methods. There are programs that a young person can choose to participate in through your individual service education service office. These are some of the programs that give you the tools to complete your own individual military educational service program.

There are a host of different programs that you can choose to participate in to build your own educational military plan. Some of the avenues that a person can participate in to get an education include CD –ROM delivery, e-mail, Pod Casts, Satellite Correspondence Television Delivery, Print Based correspondence DANTES participates in all of these methods of delivery and works to support Servicemembers that want to get their education. The DANTES program works to provide information, support, assistance and resources in programs designed for both groups and individuals. Some of these methods include: Credit by examination or CLEP Testing, which allows a person to take advantage of knowledge that they have already. You can take tests and challenge subjects, and if you pass the test then you gain direct credit at the college level for knowledge you already have.
Transcript Military Evaluation Program- All of the five Armed Service participate in awarding college credit that is awarded based on the military training and military job specialty that you have worked in. Your experience is judged based on criteria, and your overall military experience. Your experiences are judged based on specific criteria and established in the Guide for Educational Armed Forces Experiences. Where your training matches up then you are awarded the credit for these military experiences.

Distance DANTES Catalog Programs- There are three programs available for credit: The Catalog of External Educational Degrees, DANTES Independent Study Catalog, and the National DANTES Distance learning program.
