Military Servicemember Adoption Support

July 9, 2008 By admin

One of the under utilized benefits available to members of the United States Armed Forces is the support that the military has for families that are looking to adopt a child. The normal benefit issues such as bonuses, incentives, allotments, regular pay and housing are all important and better known as the typical types of benefits for Military Servicemembers. These are all important benefits that are involving a number of incentive type benefits. And they are all benefits that help compensate our Servicemembers for their proud service.

There is a program for adoption support that is provided by the Department of Defense that assists and supports young families that want to adopt a child. They provide funds to assist in adoption of up to $2,000 dollars for each adoption. These are funds that have been available for many years now but most families are not aware of the existence of the benefit. It is a program that is designed to specifically support military families that wish to adopt one or more children into their families. If you are in the Military and serving on Active duty, then you are qualified to service funds in this program. Most families are not aware of the existence of this program or that there are funds available to support their efforts in adoption of a child. There are a number of different qualifications that are required, but if a person meets the qualifications then the Servicemember and their family are eligible for funds under the program. There are specific factors that are necessary in order to qualify and these factors include;
-The Child that is to be adopted must be 18 years of age or younger.
-The Adoption must be ready to be finalized or already final.
-The Servicemember must still be on Active Duty when applying for adoption support.
-The adoption Support application must be within one year of adoption finalization.
-You must be a Veteran with at least 180 days of continuous active duty service.
-The Adoption has to be from an approved source or from an approved Adoption Agency.

The Adoption funding program for Servicemembers is one that is designed and approved by Congress for Servicemembers and it is available for up to $5,000 dollars a year. The funding is advantageous for Servicemember families and works out to support for between 2 and 3 children a year at the $2000 dollar per child rate. Funds are limited for up to $5,000 per year per Servicemember family.
