Money for College through the Military

March 14, 2012 By admin

No matter if you are in high school, college, or have already graduated, the United States Military cares about your education. This is why they have so many educational based financial programs.

What does this mean to you? In short, you can receive money for college through the Military. This holds true no matter which branch you decide to enlist in.

Student Loan Repayment

Have you already paid for college with student loans? Are you now enlisting in the Military? In this case, the military may help you repay your loans if you paid for school with a particular type of loan ? such as a Perkins or Stafford loan.

Montgomery GI Bill

If you need money to attend college this is the program for you. Over the years, many types of Military personnel have turned to the GI Bill for financial assistance with their college degree.

ROTC

Are you currently a college student? Are you looking to get a jump on Military life? Are you interested in saving money along the way? The ROTC program can give you just that. As part of this program, you are agreeing to train while in college. You are also agreeing to enlist in the Military upon graduation.

While this may sound like a big commitment, there are scholarships and stipends available to members of the ROTC. Best yet, you can give the ROTC a try for two years without making any obligation to the Military.

Service Academies

Are you interested in attending Army, Navy, or Air Force? These three service academies are very popular amongst students who want to serve their country. In addition to a top of the line education, you will receive a monthly salary. On top of this, you will earn a commission upon graduation.

Third Party Scholarships and Grants

One of the most overlooked options for college financial assistance is third party scholarships and grants. For example, there are college grants for students dedicated to people in the Military or those in college with a commitment to enlist upon graduation. To find these scholarships and grant programs you will want to search online while also staying connected in your community.

Final Word on Financial Assistance

Don?t believe the myth that the United States Military is only interested in finding people who will serve the country. This is not true. Instead, they truly care about the education of each and every soldier.

With so many ways to receive financial assistance, think about taking on a career in the Military. Doing so may allow you to have 100 percent of your college paid for. How many other people can say that?

College is not for everyone. But I would recommend doing whatever necessary to get your college degree. ROTC is a great option in high school or college. ROTC.com has a bunch of good info on rotc. I’m a veteran and admittedly haven’t taken advantage of all my GI Bill. Not sure if they’ll still be available in my old age… but that would be great in my retirement years. I would take out a loan for college as last resort. The reason, you have to pay it back of course. Normally right after college, you’re having to save every dime you can get. All to say, the military offers some good solid choices to save money for college. Talk to a recruiter. Talk to colleges. Get free info on both on this site too.
