Navy Military Police Education

June 24, 2008 By admin

The United States Navy works hard to keep an active duty and reserve force of Military Police officers, and their effectiveness is based mainly on the quality of the education that they receive. The role of military police officers serving in the Navy is very important to maintain and keep order and keep the peace. Navy military police officers work diligently to switch back and forth in wartime and peacetime, and they are tasked to maintain order and keep the peace. They are required to provide needed force to investigate crime and also provide area security and zone protection as needed and called upon. They are the personnel that are relied upon to help prevent different acts of terror by helping with inspections and checkpoint search utilization.

The Navy maintains a effective program of education and training. They train both reserve and active duty military police personnel. The Navy has mounted a large effort to train more security personnel, in the aftermath of September 11th, the attack on the USS Cole, and other security issues and attacks on US Forces worldwide. The Navy maintains military police, and in the past has used regular sailors that have been pressed into MAA, or Master At Arms, positions. Since 2001, the Navy has worked to upgrade and provide advanced training and support for raising the number of trained Navy Military policemen, both in the United States and serving worldwide aboard Navy Vessels and on shore stations located around the globe.
Most of the candidates for Navy Military police officers are between 18 and 21 years of age. In civilian police agencies you have to be at least 21 years of age, but in the military you can be as young as 18 or 19 and still be trained, carry a weapon, and serve in the military as a military policeman. After boot camp you will progress to a Navy Military Police Academy where you will learn the latest in military law enforcement training. There is a five part military police officer training. A Navy Military Police trainee can choose to become a military police officer, or progress into corrections specialist military training. Both programs are conducted in intense training that lasts from 9 to 12 weeks, depending on the course of study. For those military police officers that work to be involved in corrections, there are specific trainee skills that are given to trainees that will allow them to work in military detainment facilities and military correctional facilities.
