Obscure National Guard Jobs that you may enjoy

April 12, 2011 By admin

Some National Guard jobs are well known, popular, and coveted by a lot of people. While there is nothing wrong with taking on the responsibility of one of these jobs, you should consider all your options before making a final decision.

The last thing you want to do is choose the wrong National Guard job. If this happens you could be stuck in a position that you are not 100 percent happy with.

To get started on the path to finding the best job in the National Guard, click here to request a free information packet.

10 Obscure National Guard Jobs

1. Aircraft Pneudraulics Repairer. In this job you will be a key member of the aircraft repair team. Your main responsibility will be performing maintenance on pneudraulics systems, diagnosing problems, and troubleshooting. Anybody with an interest in an aviation career should consider a job as an aircraft pneudraulics repairer.

2. Biomedical Equipment Specialist. Day after day, the National Guard uses many electronic medical instruments. As a Biomedical Equipment Specialist your job is to service this equipment to ensure that it is in good working order. From installing to troubleshooting, you will learn everything there is to know about medical equipment.

3. Railway Equipment Repairer. You would think that more people would be interested in this position, but many overlook it time and time again. In the Railway Equipment Repairer, supplies need to travel from location to location on a regular basis. This is done in many ways, including by train. The upkeep of railway equipment is essential to this operation. Your responsibilities will include performing maintenance, supervising others, repairing engines and electrical systems, and much more.

4. Petroleum Supply Specialist. Many vehicles in the National Guard run on petroleum. This includes tanks, trucks, and aircrafts. Petroleum Supply Specialists focus on the shipment and storage of these petroleum products. Along with this, they are responsible for the dispensing and distribution of petroleum and related supplies.

5. Mortuary Affairs Specialist. Unfortunately, death is a part of war. For this reason, the National Guard has people responsible for the search and recovery of deceased members. As a Mortuary Affairs Specialist you are in charge of inventory, information collect, and the return of personal items to the family. Additionally, those in this position must be able and willing to communicate with other countries concerning civilian, allied, or enemy remains.

6. Parachute Rigger. This job may sound simple and boring, but it is anything but that. In fact, the National Guard relies heavily on people in these positions. Your main responsibilities will include inspecting parachutes for damage, repairing any issues, and packing them according to safety standards.

7. Radar Repairer. As a Radar Repairer you are part of the National Guard communications maintenance crew. Generally speaking, you will be responsible for all equipment and supplies used to direct and track ground, air, and water movements. In addition to repairs, Radar Repairers also focus time on installation and maintenance of radar equipment. Along with this, all Radar Repairers must learn the ins and outs of air defense, air traffic control, and missile tracking.

8. Counterintelligence Agent. A job as a Counterintelligence Agent is one of the most exciting in the National Guard. Unfortunately, many new members never think about this as a career option. The military needs information on the enemy in order to ensure the best plan of defense. Counterintelligence Agents use everything from human observation to electronic monitoring to gather information.

Note: Counterintelligence Agents are eligible for a cash bonus.

9. Firefighter. Obscure? Not really. Overlooked? Definitely. Becoming a Firefighter in the National Guard is a great idea for many reasons. Remember, every base has its own services including a fire department. From putting out fires to locating fire hazards, your job as a Firefighter is very important to the overall operation of the Guard. You are also responsible for responding to issues related to hazardous materials and providing first aid.

10. Financial Management Technician. This career path is a bit more in-depth and complicated than most people believe. As a Financial Management Technician you will be responsible for the maintenance and organization of all financial records. Also, preparing payments, computing payroll, and auditing records is part of this job.

There are over 150 available jobs in the National Guard. Some are more popular than others. Although the positions above are obscure (to some people) you should consider them when choosing a career.
