New Station On Former Site Of Insurgent Stronghold
One of the best things that can be said of the success in areas in Baghdad is the location of some of the new facilities for the police. The police have been able to locate a couple of their new police stations in the very middle of areas that were formerly the center of insurgent activities.
The insurgents that have not been arrested know full well that the new police facilities took over their locations, and they are not pleased, but they literally are powerless to do anything about it. The surveying of the newest Iraqi police station in the Akad neighborhood was the main thrust for the MNF squad that helped choose the location.
There are still criminal groups that try to function in the area, but the careful placement of the police stations has been wise, and it has caused the criminals a lack of any real area to be able to operate.
The future site will be sound precisely because it is in the thick of things, turning what was formerly a losing situation to a situation that is a win win for the citizens and the Iraqi Security forces.
There are increasing reports that criminal groups are moving out and leaving the region precisely because of the location of the new police stations. The coalition and the Iraqi Security Forces have been successful in the design and location for these new stations.
