Popular United States Air Force Career Fields

May 19, 2011 By admin

There are many career fields in the United States Air Force. If you decide that this is the right branch of the military for you, choosing a career path early on is very important. You have the chance to receive top notch training from some of the brightest teachers in your field. You don?t want to pass this by.

For more information on joining the Air Force and choosing a career, click here to request a free Air Force jobs packet.

Air Force careers span a variety of fields. Some people believe that all Air Force jobs are based around being a pilot or taking to the sky ? this is not true. Sure, there are jobs that fit this mold but there are many other fields to consider.

Your options include jobs within these fields: Aircraft; Arts and Education; Business Operations and Administration; Computer and Computer Science; Electronics and Electrics; Emergency Management and Response; Engineering and Applied Science; Facilities; Fuel and Propulsion Systems; Future Technologies; Ground Vehicles; Health and Medicine; Intelligence; Law; Logistics and Transportation; Maintenance and Repair; Natural Science; Space; Special Operations; and Weaponry.

Now do you see just how many career opportunities the Air Force has to offer? This branch of the military may have a distinct focus on controlling the skies, but they rely on people in a variety of fields on the ground.

Some of the most common non-pilot positions include: civil engineering, aerospace maintenance, vehicle operations, nurse practitioner, health services administrator, special investigations officer, and weather specialist.

In addition to a career in the field of your choice, there are many other benefits of joining the United States Air Force. They include: incentive pay, ongoing training, retirement benefits, tuition assistance, scholarships for college, medical and dental benefits, and commissary services among others.

Contact a Recruiter

Now that you know more about popular Air Force careers you need to take the next step: contact a recruiter. During your meeting you can discuss your career choice, educational goals, and much more. Make sure you ask any questions that have been on your mind.

The job of your recruiter is to provide you with information on the Air Force ? not to force you into joining. You will never feel pressured. Instead, you will receive the information needed to make a confident decision.

Now what?

Once you decide on a career and enlist in the Air Force, you will find out where you are going to be stationed. There are roughly 65 bases in the United States and more than 20 locations in other countries.

While you do not get to choose your base, the Air Force does everything possible to accommodate your preference. During your Basic Military Training you will meet with an advisor who will help you complete a preference worksheet. On this sheet you will mark your top eight selections in the United States and overseas, while ranking them in order of preference.

The Air Force has to do what is best for them, but again, they try to consider your choices.

Is the Air Force Right for me?

With this information you should have an easier time deciding if the Air Force is the right military branch for you. As you can see, the sky is the limit when it comes to career placement. Along with this, the benefits of becoming a member of the Air Force run deep.

No matter if you are interested in being a pilot or working in some other capacity, there is a spot for you in the Air Force. With bases from one side of the world to the next you will get to experience many different cultures while broadening your horizons and shaping your future.
