Questions And Answers On GI Benefits

August 8, 2008 By admin

There are a number of different changes that occurred in 2007 and because of that there have been a number of different Montgomery GI Bill changes. People have a lot of general questions and they often want to know what has changed, and what has not. The GI Benefits affect going to the university or college. There are some answers to various questions, and here are some of them: Can I start and stop my Montgomery GI bill benefits? Yes, you can. When you return to school you can reapply and use your MGIB benefits again, and if you decide to take some time off of school, then you can stop. If you do, your benefits will still be there waiting to you. How often will my Montgomery GI Bill Benefits arrive? It tends to average monthly benefits from the MGIB. Each school will require that you verify your status, either by telephone or Internet.

Are there other Veteran Benefits besides the MGIB? If you are an eligible Veteran you can be eligible for a number of different benefits. Some of these different benefits that are available in some cases are; Educational VA Pilot Assistance, Dependant and Survivors Education Benefits, Post Vietnam Educational Vet Assistance, Educational Assistance Testing Program, and other Veterans with Service connected disabilities educational programs. How Long After I first Begin My MGIB Benefits Do I have To Use Them? For the most part a Servicemember has up to ten years from when they separate from active duty service. If a Veteran is recalled or activated for more than 90 days, then their period resets and their ten years starts over. Is the Montgomery GI Bill Financial Aid? For most intents and purposes no it?s not considered financial aid, for several reasons. The Aid is paid directly to the Servicemember, and has been earned by their military service, not awarded according to need. It does count as income however, for purposes of tax returns and for filing for financial aid.

Most people often qualify for some level of regular financial Federal aid in addition to their military benefits, and this can make attending school a lot more easier and lucrative. It can take off a lot of the pressure on Servicemembers who separate from the service and then work hard to try and get an education.
