Religious Chaplain Careers in the Military

April 2, 2012 By admin

Are you interested in serving your country, God, and others all at the same time? If so, you may want to look into one of the many religious career fields that are available throughout the United States Military. No matter if you join the Army, Navy, or another branch, those who are interested in a religious chaplain career are in high demand.

Regardless of the background or beliefs of soldiers and sailors, it is important that their religious needs are met as they serve in the Military. It is the job of those who belong to the Religious Ministry Team to take care of all these needs.

As you can imagine, access to religious counsel is extremely important to those in the Military. By joining this career field, you can play a big part in helping your country while also showing others the way.

There are many career paths to consider, some of which will align with your future aspirations and current religious beliefs.

Become a Chaplain

When you become a Chaplain in the Military, you will have multiple responsibilities. Above all else, it is your job to understand the religious needs and challenges of your fellow soldier.

Some of the many responsibilities that you will have as a Chaplain include:

– Provide religious ministry to those who share your faith and beliefs

– Care for all service members as well as their family members

– Ensure the free exercise of religion

Training and Education

Just like any other position in the Military, you have to go through the proper training and receive the right education if you want to become part of the Religious Ministry Team.

For example, you have to complete an 84 day training program to become a Navy Chaplain. Your journey will begin at Officer Development School in Newport, Rhode Island. From there, you will find your way to Navy Chaplain School in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. It is during this time that you will go through orientation and receive your job placement.

Of course, your education is not complete at this point unless you want it to be. In the future, you can continue your education through the Graduate Education Program. This allows you to learn while you earn as a full-time Officer.

Are you currently in the process of completing your theological degree? If so, you may be able to join the Navy Chaplain Candidate Program as a student.

If you are interested in attending a more traditional college before taking on the quest of a religious career in the military, you can request more information.

There are both full and part-time opportunities available within this career field. Your two primary options include: full-time, active duty and part-time, reserve service. Either way, you are in position to serve your country as well as the many people who need religious guidance.

With so many religious careers in the military, this is a path to consider if you are looking for a way to serve your country, god, and your fellow service members at the same time.
