Reminder to RSVP: First Lady to Visit Fort Campbell Veterans Jobs Summit and Career Forum

April 22, 2014 By admin

April 22, 2014, Fort Campbell, KY – On Wednesday, as part of the third anniversary of their Joining Forces initiative, First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden will deliver remarks to more than one thousand service members, military spouses, and over 100 employers at the Fort Campbell Veterans Jobs Summit and Career Forum.

The Summit – organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Department of Defense?s Military Spouse Employment Partnership – represents a new level of public, private, and non-profit sector collaboration that, in coordination with the active duty military, provides transitioning service members with employment resources earlier than ever before.

At the Summit, the First Lady and Dr. Biden will also make an announcement about new government tools designed to simplify the job search process for Veterans, transitioning service members, National Guard, Reserve components, and military spouses.

Remarks by the First Lady and Dr. Biden will be open press. To RSVP, please email [email protected] by 12 PM CT, April 22. All media will need a valid photo ID. For additional Fort Campbell information, please call (270) 798-3025.

At the conclusion of their remarks, the First Lady and Dr. Biden will visit with families of deployed soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). A portion of this will be covered by a pre-determined pool.

Through panels at the Summit, service members and military spouses will have the chance to hear directly from federal and state service agencies, veteran-friendly employers, and Kentucky native, Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt. Dakota Meyer, about the resources, training, and opportunities available to help them transition into the civilian workforce. The Summit will culminate in a job fair where more than 100 employers are expected to participate, with job opportunities available for attendees of all ranks and levels of experience. A full list of speakers can be found here.
