Removing Educational Road Blocks

March 28, 2008 By admin

You are enlisting in the military, but you do not have a plan for your education. You want to get an education, you know that, but you do not have any sort of plan or idea on how to get there? Well there are a lot of reasons why you are not where you should be educationally, and as a rule most of the reasons a person has not met their educational goals, or simply not set any can be identified and eliminated. Getting your education and serving your country do not have to be mutually exclusive. It is possible for a person to join the military, and have a sound plan to get their college degree, but it means being willing to sit down, and put on paper goals, and then working together with advisors and mentors to reach those goals, one by one.

There may be a number of reasons that you have not done anything about getting your education. As you consider a career in the Armed Forces, you should be aware that it is important, vital even to have a game plan for your education. Otherwise, a lot of educational opportunities that you have at your fingertips may be lost, or not utilized to the fullest extent that you have available to you. Time, fear, lack of money, these are all reasons that people give as to why they don’t come up with a workable plan for their education. Each of these reasons can be addressed, however, and overcome if you set your mind to dealing with the issue.

Fear- Many people who have never gone to college are intimidated by the idea. They think it will be hard, or that the people they meet at the university will be more advanced, or smarter, or that somehow they wont fit in. But this is not viable, because EVERYONE that is headed for their first year of college feels this same fear, yet thousands of new students every year get through it, and you will too. You just have to establish what you wish to do, and start one step at a time.

Time- if you think that you don’t have enough time to join the military, and to get your education, then you are suffering under a misnomer. You likely will not find an organization that is friendlier to going to school in the world than the United States Military. Between the support financially and the different programs, the U.S. Military has a path for you to do both, if you truly want to get it done. Don’t wait till you leave the service, because if you do you are missing a golden opportunity to achieve things when you have the resources and the ability to accomplish them.
