Idea Is Nothing New But Progressing Well
The province of Al Anbar has been given back to Iraqi Control, it was the 11th of 18 provinces that have been given back to Iraqi Control, so the idea of Iraqi led military security is nothing new. It continues to go well, with additional areas constantly being given back to the Iraqi Government.
It used to be that there were weapons discovered every day, and the amount and type of weapons were staggering. From July of 2006 to July 2007 there were 240 different violent incidents in the Jazeerah region.
Now, the community of Jazeerah has become literally a model community.
The numbers of discoveries has fallen dramatically, and it is not because of lack of effort but because of a lack of insurgents, and a lack of weapons. There are a lot of reasons for this, but much of this has been because of how well the Iraqi Security Forces have operated.
The Police and Iraqi Army police work in the area, and the coalition is on scene to back up their efforts. It is now the Iraqi Police that are dictating the pace of the operations. The coalition is pleased, and working hard to give the ISF forces all the support that they can. The working relationships are successful, and the Iraqi Security forces have taken to leadership nearly as well as they did in learning how to do so in the first place.
