Special Operations Education Training

June 11, 2008 By admin

The United States Army has always selected personnel for Special Forces or Delta Force training from among enlisted personnel that are already serving in the Military. For the first time a starter program has been started where a person can apply and enlist from the very beginning with the intention of joining the Special Forces. In the past enlisting with the purpose of joining Special Operations was not an option, but with the new program it is possible to join and train to become a Delta Force or Special Operations operative. This is an exciting new training and education opportunity, and it is hoped that young applicants wanting to join and become an Army Green Beret or Delta Force member will attract a new breed and large amount of applications to enlist in the Army. Not everyone will make it, people who are not able to keep up with the increased tempo and intensive training are allowed to roll back to a regular Army enlistment, but it is a new challenging opportunity for those seeking to enlist.

This new training and education program has begun because of the increased pressure and operational tempo that the battlefield conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan have created for the Army. Major General Cavin is the Recruitment commander for the Army and this new program is his brainchild, and is being tried out as an experiment to see if it will work. The first Wave will be to see if it can be a successful program. It will begin with the current initial 400 enlistment soldiers across the United States, and they will be tracked during their enlistment and progression to see if they are successful. It is not expected that they will all make the grade, as it is extremely difficult training and the drop out rate averages over 30 percent in Special Operations Training. The level of training and education that is necessary to become a Green Beret or Special Forces Operative is quite extensive, in addition to basic training an applicant winds up training and working for over a year to train for the position. The physical, mental and discipline requirements are extensive, and an applicant needs to be in tip-top mental and physical shape to achieve the requirements of the training and education program at each stage.

A new recruit has to pass a number of mental and physical qualifications and tests, and then as their training is completed, they have to continue to meet each test and pass in order to progress in their training. Otherwise they will fall back and be assigned to a different enlisted job specialty or MOS.
