Special Skills Pay Compensation Benefits

October 24, 2008 By admin

There are different types of pay and compensation that are available for enlisted Servicemembers in the US Military. This benefit is available to anyone who serves in a special duty pay category. For jobs that need special skills, involve special risks, or have certain job environments or requirements the military gives a variety of bonuses and special duty pay.

The military is an organization that has many different jobs that are unusual. Special Duty Pay: Such jobs can often entail greater risk or danger, or may involve a long period of training before you are declared proficient. Because of this, and because the military does not want to lose their investment after they train someone extensively these jobs have an added financial pay benefit. Some jobs in the military by their mere classification involve a pay benefit. An example would be a nuclear Reactor Specialist. Because demand for some jobs is always greater than the supply, there are jobs that pay a dividend or additional amount for having them. Combat Pay- This currently means you are serving in Iraq, Afghanistan, or one of the other individual sites classified as a war zone by the department of defense. If you are serving in a war theater then you are eligible to receive Combat duty pay. Flight Pay- This pay area is for active duty Servicemembers who serve on the flight line, or who are directly involved in flight operations. This area is available for navigators, weapons and radar crewmembers, and others who are directly involved in aviation. Flight pay can be up to eight hundred dollars a month in additional financial benefits. One of the best-known special duty pay benefits is for those involved in Aviation. You don?t have to be a pilot to collect flight pay; you can be anyone that is involved in military aviation. Members of a aircraft crew, runway and ground aviation crewmembers, landing operations crewmembers, and those personnel involved and launching aircraft both at sea from a Carrier and on shore on the ground can be eligible for flight pay.

Language Skills Pay- If you join the military and do not speak a foreign language you can sometimes be assigned to attend language school and learn a language for use in your military career. If you speak a foreign language you can be eligible for additional pay over and above what you normally receive. If you join the military fluent in another language, especially Farsi or Arabic, then you may be eligible right away for language proficiency pay. There are a few people each year who are turned down who wish to learn a foreign language, but its wise to reapply as the needs for proficient interpreters in the military only grows year to year.
