Steps to Choosing the Right US Military Career

July 13, 2012 By admin

The US Military career path that you choose is not necessarily going to be best for the soldier standing next to you. While everybody is devoted to protecting their country, the career that you choose is going to determine your responsibilities in the Military while also shaping your future.

While some people don?t know the first thing about the US Military and the career opportunities available to them, others realize that this is a great way to get formal training in a field that they love.

1. Take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, also known as the ASVAB. Simply put, the higher you score the more opportunities you are able to consider. By taking practice tests online, you can prepare yourself to score as high as possible.

2. Setup an appointment with your local recruiter to discuss your career goals as well as your ASVAB score. At this time, you can get a better idea of what type of careers you qualify for.

3. Compare the pros and cons of every opportunity. You don?t want to choose just any US Military career. You are in position to receive top notch training from some of the most knowledgeable professionals in the world. Why would you want to miss out on this opportunity?

4. Think about the future. It is easy to think about the short term, simply settling for any job. But remember, the experience that you gain in the US Military is going to help you land a position in the civilian world when you are done serving your country. In other words, you want to gain experience and knowledge in a career field that will interest you now and in the future.

5. Don?t let your recruiter push you towards a particular career. Remember, the US Military is short staffed in some fields. For this reason, you may be pushed in one direction or another. Stick to your guns and join the field that is best for you. Remember, you are going to be proudly serving your country no matter which career path you choose.

As you begin to contemplate your future, you may be intimidated by what goes into choosing the right US Military career. This is a big choice that is going to effect you now and for many years to come.

If you follow the steps above, you will at least feel more comfortable with and confident in the decision you are about to make. When you get involved with the right career, nothing will stop you from reaching your goals.
