Studying Online ? The Right Option for you?

May 25, 2012 By admin

As an active duty service member in the United States Military, you may have the desire to obtain your college degree or further your education. This holds true no matter if you are stationed on land or at sea, regardless of your location in the world.

Believe it or not, an online education may be just what you are looking for. This is one of the best ways to earn a degree while serving your country. With an online degree program, you have the flexibility necessary to achieve your educational goals while protecting the United States.

Is this A Legitimate Opportunity?

In the past, the thought of attending college online was extremely scary. Most people saw this as a big risk. However, things are changing and in today?s world approximately 1 out of every 3 students is taking at least one course via the internet.

As you begin the research process, you will find that many of the top educational institutions in the world are now offering courses online. Along with these, there are quite a few smaller, lesser-known schools doing the same.

When it comes time to make a decision, you need to ask the appropriate questions of the school you are interested in attending. Your status as a member of the US Military puts you in a unique position. You must make this clear as you enroll, ensuring that you are on the right path to completing your degree in the appropriate amount of time.

– Does the GI Bill and/or Military Tuition Assistance program provide financial assistance for online courses?

– How much time must I devote to my education?

– Does the online school offer credit for Military service, such as outlined by the American Council on Education?

By answering questions such as these, you may have an easier time choosing a school. For example, one may offer academic credit for your experience while another does not. In this case, your decision is probably going to be straightforward.

Even if you don?t feel that an online program is the right choice, you are encouraged to at least consider this option. As hard as it is for many people to believe, this is a trend that is growing. Over the next couple of years, it is expected that nearly 50 percent of all students will be taking at least one course online.

As a member of the United States Military, an online program can give you just what you need. You have the ability to learn while never having to attend class in person.
