US Coast Guard Yeoman Careers

The United States Coast Guard is the smallest of the five services, and it is a service that actually is part of the newly created Homeland Security Department. It is assigned to a civilian federal department, formerly being assigned to the department of transportation. This is done because as a civilian agency when it boards ships on the seas it is seen as a civilian police action instead of an act of war. One of the most important jobs in the Coast Guard is the job of Yeoman. It is an enlisted rating that deals with many of the different personnel and administrative duties in the United States US Coast Guard.

The US Coast Guard has a large amount of equipment, vehicles, vessels and machinery, but with the US Coast Guard the first priority is its people. The skills and training that a person realizes as a US Coast Guard Yeoman are directly transferable to a large number of civilian careers when a person gets out of the Coast Guard. The US Coast Guard Yeoman works to keep legal records, organize and manage a wide variety of administrative duties, keeps in depth records, and assists with other management and personnel issues. You will develop an expert familiarity with different types of US Coast Guard written and official documentation and you will serve as an advisor to many enlisted personnel in their job areas. People with good people skills and those that enjoy dealing with details will do well as a US Coast Guard Yeoman.

Any organization tracks and manages people, and the United States US Coast Guard is no exception. You will be the vital link in many US Coast Guard units; especially smaller US Coast Guard commands to make sure that everything runs smoothly. Dealing with US Coast Guard personnel issues can be a varied and interesting endeavor, one that will give a person a lot of practical experience in dealing with US Coast Guard issues. If you are a team member and like to work with different people, then this may be a good job for you. People work and they need assistance in the US Coast Guard just as they do in any large organization.

Enlisted members of the US Coast Guard who choose the Yeoman rating may be involved with; keeping US Coast Guard Personnel records, and legal documents, administration and other correspondence, and various operations involved with personnel issues. The Yeoman rating assists in managing the personnel of the US Coast Guard, thousands sailors and airmen strong.
