Vocational Technical Basra Center Rebuilt

June 20, 2008 By admin

Coalition Assists Iraqi Workmen In Center Renovation

The Basra region has seen its share of battlefield and security issues, but one of the successes recently in the Basra region has been the rebuilding of the Vocational and technical center. Students have been attending the newly rebuilt and refurbished technical and vocational skill. The new Al Khaseeb Vocational Technical Center has been dedicated and will train Iraqi citizens who want to learn about different types of construction, including plastering, interior renovations, electric and roof repairs, as well as other types of construction.

The leader and headmaster of the Vocational Technical School are very pleased that the new school has been rebuilt. He has been the headmaster of the school, even when it was in disrepair for the last three decades. For the last several years he has been a headmaster without a school, until the restoration of the school on the site where the former school was nearly destroyed by the battle and fighting.

The newly rebuilt facility now has nearly 600 students, and training for every type of construction that you can imagine. In the next year to 18 months it is expected that nearly 1000 students will be able to participate.

The new facility has additional areas to offer classes in air conditioning, refrigeration, auto mechanics, welding and computers, as well as the traditional vocational and technical courses that have been offered in the past.

Can anyone identify the location of the Al Khaseeb Vocational Technical Center? I have spent a long time trying to find the actual location on a map. I am a graduate student in Architecture at MIT in Cambridge, MA and am interested in locating my thesis project in proximity to the vocational technical center.

    Thanks for any help
